World-leading research carried out in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences has wide-ranging impact on society, whether working with local communities, advising government or influencing international business practices. With over 1,000 academics and students involved in research across 11 schools, we have achieved global recognition for our dynamic and innovative work, engaging with public, private and third sector organisations, as well as with wider audiences and interest groups.

In the 2014 UK assessment of research, the Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), the College submitted staff to 12 Units which were ranked within the top five in the UK, and 18 Units which were ranked first in Scotland.
